Last week I completed Levi's holiday window at Industrie Denim in San Francisco. My work here consisted of building all of the oak furniture as well as creating an actual brick wall for the display.
LEVI'S WINDOW IN DOWNTOW SF
My latest work has been in collaboration with Levi's XX Division. They commissioned me to design and build set furniture for the window of a new store downtown called "Industrie Denim". Location is Grant Street, between Bush and Sutter - window will be up until the end of November. I will also be creating a new window for Levi's scheduled to be ready by the 1st of December - same location.
STEAM BENDING IN COLORADO
I spent two weeks in July learning how to steam bend wood at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado, and this is one of my creations. The first of many experiments in steaming! As soon as I get my own steamer up and running, you will be seeing many more of these organic forms.
RECLAIMED REDWOOD AND JAPANESE JOINERY
Making this entertainment console was a great opportunity to use some old turn of the century redwood that I had accumulated and try my hand at using hand tools for all of the joinery. Redwood is a great wood for this as it's softness makes for smooth chiseling and good compression fit joints. I tried my best to leave all the idiosyncrasies of the wood (holes, paint remnants, kerf marks, etc...) so as to keep the wood's rustic character.
FINALLY A PIECE FOR ME!
It is simple and straightforward, but perfect for Celine and I's new space. As with my previous post of the coffee table, I used cherry and melamine for this credenza. Note that the drawers expand in width ala fibonacci sequence. Finally I have somewhere to put my records, sketch pads and books!
